Wikipedia’s redesign, good or bad?

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Last month Wikipedia redesigned their website adding new tools and making design changes, however it hasn’t gone down as well as they thought. Wikipedia spent a year testing the site which involved over 600,000 people until it was released last month, but currently the members of the public are feeding back with mixed reactions.

The relocation of the search box to the top right hand corner has created an up-raw with people commenting “We in the West read from left to right so it should naturally start at the left” However others didn’t seem to mind the change replying with “Am I the only one who loves the search box in the top right?!”

Social Media on Your Mobile Phone

Friday, March 5th, 2010

As smartphones continue to grow in numbers in the UK mobile phone market more and more of us are connecting with friends, but not in the traditional way. Instead of making calls we are now using our phones increasingly to surf the web and social networking sites are at the top of the list of most visited sites. According to browser maker Opera, Facebook is now the most popular social networking site amongst mobile web users. The popular micro-blogging site Twitter also saw a massive increase in online hits during 2009.
The quality of the handsets being released onto the market means that the divide between traditional PCs and handheld mobile devices is narrowing. Advances in technology mean that sites originally built to be viewed on a PC monitor can now be easily viewed on a much smaller screen and this allows users to keep in touch with their friends, read the news, make purchases and more from one portable location. Those with an online presence should take note of these social media advances and ensure their website can be viewed on a portable device, otherwise they risk falling behind.

Facebook is the world’ largest social networking site, with a staggering 350,000 users.
